Find out what software is best for live dj performing!
When it all boils down to it, it comes down to preference. Both Mixxx and PCDJ DEX are powerful software and both have specific pro's and con's dependent on your needs. Here we will briefly cover explain each. Since we are no experts in this software we can only summarize, we ask for your feedback in which one you prefer and why. Please let us know in the comments.
Mixxx is free of charge and completely open source. What does that mean? Not only does it cost not a penny, but if you're smart enough you can actually change it's programming to suit your needs.
It comes with all the stuff you'd expect it to, you've got a twin deck, four sample decks, loops and the ability to use wide range of formats. It has BPM detection and auto synch, plus the Automated DJ tool for when you feel like sitting back with a cold one. As if it couldn't get better there's the ability to use more then 90 MIDI controllers and vinyl frameworks.
The program is updated frequently, and as of late the design and UI has been improved dramatically (before it was little lack luster). Now, it looks modern yet still has the same basic efficiency of old. New effects and UI improvements are contantly rolling out from the dev team, and it's always excited to see what they come out with next. 10/10 for the dev team. Highly recommend everyone at least check out what the fuss is about. Mixxx is fantastic plus it's free, so what's the hold up?
Besides the usual stuff you've come to expect from DJ software, the mixer, effects, etc., Dex has video mixing and karaoke tools, making it the do all mobile option for DJs and live performances.
With features that include 4 digital decks, beat syncing and key matching capability, sample player, and looper tool, little is left that one could possibly be left without in a live DJ performance scenario.
The Dex support is huge for almost all MIDI controlls, and can even be used with digital vinyl config's.
Better yet, you can try it out for free. The trial version is limited but still has a lot of powerful features.
