In addition to professional musicians, songwriters, engineers, and producers, the Prism Atlas is a USB multi-track audio interface that may be used for personal recording and sound creation. It is also suitable for recording studios, post-production facilities, and score stages. At its core, Atlas is a professional music and sound recording tool used for everything from mixing to overdubbing to stem-based mastering to critical listening applications.

As a dedicated device, Atlas delivers Prism Sound's acclaimed performance, sound quality, and state-of-the-art clock technology in a format compatible with both Windows (Vista, 7 and 8, 32 and 64 bit, ASIO) and Mac OS X 10.4.11 then later (Intel). The Atlas can be programmed to work with a computer, but it may also be used stand-alone by connecting to its ADAT, S/PDIF, or AES3 I/O.

In addition to the Orpheus, the Prism Sound Atlas is a 2U multi-channel 24 bit/192kHz USB audio interface that continues the legacy of high-quality audio interfaces that began with the Prism Sound Atlas.

Using the audio driver on the host computer, you can connect up to eight analog input channels and up to ten digital input channels to your audio workstation software for recording and mixing. In a similar vein, eight analog output channels, up to ten digital output channels, and stereo headphone outputs can all play up to 20 separate tracks simultaneously. If you want to use the built-in DSP mixer to drive each output pair (1-2, 3-4) or the headphone output with a local mix of any selection of inputs, you can do so through the controller applet. This is useful for low-latency foldback or monitoring to headphones or main outputs. Automatic imbalanced operation is available on all analog inputs, which are electrically balanced. Analog outputs are electronically balanced with 'bootstrapping,' which means the level is maintained even if one of the legs is disconnected.

USB interface that complies with industry standards

Prism Sound has recognized the rising importance of native processing power for professional users. The fact that software programmers for conventional PC and Mac platforms have seen significant improvements in recent years has been considered. Atlas is equipped with a USB2 interface. In addition to being supported natively in Mac, iPod, Linux, and Android, this interface is also supported in Windows through a driver.

MDIO (Multichannel Digital Input and Output)

Atlas and Titan are compatible with Prism Sound's MDIO expansion cards, which enable an alternate "host" connection for the Atlas and Titan. It is typical for the "host" to be a computer. The Atlas or Titan interface establishes a link between the host and the external analog and digital audio I/O ports. It is possible that the host connection would always be used if the MDIO expansion card wasn't installed; however, this is not the case.

In addition to the standard host connection, the MDIO expansion slot provides an alternate host connection. It will not necessarily disable the USB port, but in the case of the Pro Tools interface MDIO-PTHDX, the USB port is turned off when the Pro Tools interface is being utilized, and the USB port is not turned off otherwise. For the time being, only the MDIO-PTHDX expansion card is available for purchase. Others may be developed in the future.

Inputs and outputs that are adaptable

A large number of professional users told us they desired a highly integrated solution with instrument and microphone inputs, line outputs that could be used for stereo or multi-channel monitoring and foldback to performers, and a line output that could be used for stereo or multi-channel monitoring and foldback to performers. As a result, Atlas has a maximum capacity of 18 concurrent input and output channels, as well as stereo headphones, thanks to its eight analog recording channels, eight monitoring outputs, stereo digital input, output on a phono connector, and concurrent optical digital I/O ports that can interface with S/PDIF or ADAT data formats.
